The Guiding Premise

First, think about how you want to your holiday to FEEL. Do any of these speak to you?
adventurous and daring
alive and energised
authentic and nourished
calm and centred
connected and loved
creative and curious
excited and elated
fulfilled and grateful
inspired and intrigued
jubilant and joyous
mindful and grounded
spiritual and supported
Or something else? Most people plan their travel bucket list the wrong way round by trying to come up with destinations first. That’s like trying to write a ‘to do list’ without knowing what you are trying to achieve. And it’s what everyone else does!
Starting from the feelings you want to get from your travel experiences will help you to come up with a travel bucket list that is tailored just for you.
Your travel experiences should be as unique as you are!
The Logistics
Now that you know how you want your holiday to feel, it’s time to get into the nitty-gritty of logistics. Here are a few questions to ask yourself:
How long do I want to travel for?
What kind of budget do I have?
What type of accommodation do I prefer?
Do I want to travel solo, with friends, or with family?
Do I need to learn any new skills before embarking on my trip (e.g. learning to surf)?
Answering these questions will give you a better idea of the type of travel experiences you should be looking for. For example, if you want to travel on a shoestring budget, hostels and Couchsurfing are going to be your best bet. But if you’re looking for luxury accommodation, your accommodation will look very different.
The same goes for travel companions – if you’re an introvert who prefers solo travel, then planning group tours is probably not going to be for you. However, if you’re outgoing and love making new friends, travelling in a group might just be the best way to see the world!
Write your Travel Bucket List Down

Now that you know how the logistics might affect your bucket list holidays and most importantly, know how you want your bucket list holiday to make you FEEL, it’s time to start brainstorming destinations, sights and experiences for your travel bucket list.
There is no right or wrong way to do this – just get all of your ideas down on paper (or in a digital document). There is plenty of evidence that writing your goals down makes them much more likely to happen. So write your travel bucket list down somehow!
Ideas for your travel bucket list can be anywhere in the world – there are no limits! Write down as many destinations as you can think of, no matter how big or small. Use Pinterest and Google (and my website!) to get inspiration.
Think about all of the places you’ve always wanted to visit. Why did they pique your interest? What about that destination appealed? Do they fit in with the feelings you want your travel bucket list to evoke for you? Or did someone tell you it was THEIR ideal destination? Keep checking back to your list of feelings that you want your travel bucket list to evoke for you. Does your travel bucket list match your desired feelings?
Prioritise your Travel Bucket List

Here’s some more questions that might help you when prioritising your travel bucket list:
Where would I go right now if money wasn’t an obstacle?
Where have I always wanted to go? Why?
What international foods do I really want to try?
What are some specific sites I want to see?
If you were 90 years old and looking back on life, where would I regret not going or experiencing?
Don’t be afraid to dream big!
