Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula

Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is an immense coastal region brimming with tropical beaches, stunning wildlife, ancient Mayan ruins, colonial-era architecture, and adventurous activities.

The Las Coloradas pink lakes are a magical place where sea water turns bright pink on an epic scale. The bright pink hue of these saline lagoons is created by a combination of algae, brine shrimp and plankton - that give this area its unique colour. Take an early morning stroll to watch the sunrise cast its rosy hues over these spectacular landscapes – or take a refreshing dip in one of the shallow salty pools during a hot day. If you're feeling really brave, trek across the salt flats and feel what it's like to stand in between two different shades of pink!

Immerse yourself in the culture and history of this region on a visit to world-famous cities like Merida and Chichen Itza – discover forgotten stories as you explore their ancient crumbling temples and lush jungle landscapes. Or if you’re after some rest and relaxation, the stunning coastline provides plenty of opportunities to kick back and soak up some sun while you explore pristine white sand beaches and crystal clear waters. Take a stroll through historical structures like the Great Ballcourt, where you can still witness the bones of two eerie serpentine heads carved into stone columns.

If you're looking for something truly unique, take a trip to one of the area’s hidden cenotes. A cenote is an underground cave filled with the most stunning turquoise water you have ever seen. And Yucatan Peninsula is covered in them. Snorkel among these ethereal wonders while discovering rare species of fish, turtles, and rays in their natural habitats.

Akumal beach has shallow blue-green waters that are home to three different kinds of sea turtles that you can swim or snorkel with.

I have not even mentioned Chichen Itza yet- this UNESCO world heritage site is well worth exploring. This ancient Mayan city is a true testament to the power of nature and human ingenuity. From its towering pyramid known as El Castillo, to its intricate stonework and breath-taking sculptures, at Chichen Itza, you'll find yourself in the presence of something truly special - something that transcends time itself.

Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula is a great all round destination.
