A Botswana safari is an opportunity to experience some of the most pristine and untouched wild places on earth. It is is one of the world's greatest wildlife-watching destinations, where you can witness some of Africa’s most awe-inspiring creatures in their natural habitats. Whether you are a nature enthusiast, budding photographer or just looking for an incredible safari experience – Botswana has something for everyone to explore.
Start your journey in Chobe National Park – known as the ‘land of elephants’ and home to one of Africa’s largest concentrations of mammals – get up close to these gentle giants on a thrilling game drive and marvel at the vast savannah plains that stretch out before you.
Do not miss out on boat cruises down the Chobe River too – this meandering waterway provides stunning views and plenty of opportunities for spotting hippos, crocodiles and rare birds.
Moremi Game Reserve is a highlight, home to a diverse range of wildlife including lions, leopards and elephants. But it's also a place to learn about the traditional San bushmen of the Kalahar, who have lived in harmony with nature for centuries.
Venture further south into the Kalahari Desert region - wander through grassy savannah landscapes, stumble upon rural villages and take in panoramic views over the Okavango Delta. The Delta is also home to a huge array of wild animals including big cats, antelopes and giraffes. I loved keeping an eye out for rare species such as sable antelope and honey badgers along my travels here.
Makgadikgadi Pans is a nearby must-see. It's a vast landscape of salt flats that supports a surprising diverse range of smaller wildlife. You can witness fields of crystallised salt stretching as far as the eye can see. Take a 4x4 safari across the rust red plains – marvel at its huge open spaces, spot animals such as meerkats and ostriches, or find ancient human artefacts that date back hundreds of years.
And of course, no safari is complete without a campfire under the stars, where you can share stories and reflect on all that you have seen and heard.
